Alexander the Great conquered the city of Cappadocia in mid 4th century B.C. After the death of Alexander the Great, Cappadocia was established as an independent kingdom. It became a major battleground for control by the kingdom of Pontus and the Roman Empire. The struggle for political control continued until it became a Roman province in 17 A.D.
Today, Cappadocia is a popular tourtist destination. The city has many beautiful rock formations because of the eruption of ancient volcanoes more than 9 to 3 million years ago. Cappadocia is spectacular.
